Oxygen Meter Page 41

Doctors don't need to take a

blood sample to find out how

much oxygen is in a patent's

body. A pulse taximeter does it

for them using a beam of light.

                      In addition, this chemical analyzer

                      clips around the patent's finger.

Inside a bright light is shone

                    through the skin. A small

                    amount of the light passes

                    through the finger and is

                    picked up by a deletion

on the other side. Oxygen absorbs

some colors of the light and

                   keeps them from passing

                   through. By measuring how

                    much light reaches the delector

the pulse oximeter can tell  how

                  much oxygen is inside the

                   blood vessel and the  rest

                    of the body.
