America's Story The Ancient Americans
14,000 years ago 12,000 years ago By 12,000 years ago Early peoples move to the Americas. 10,000 years ago 11,600 years ago Hunters begin to use Clovis points. 10,000 years ago Giant Ice Age animals die out. 8,000 years ago and 6,000 years ago 7,000 to 4,700 years ago Early Americans begin to farm. 4,000 years ago, 2,000 years ago and present 5,000 years ago People continue to the settle the Americas 3,5000 years ago Olmec civilization develops. 800 years ago 40,000 people live in the city of Cahokia 350 years ago Iroquois League form. The story of the earliest peoples to come to what is known today as the Americans begins thousands of years ago. In many ways the story is filled with mystery. No one knows exactly where the first American came from or when they arrived. In addition, one thing however, is certain. After early people arrived they slowly moved throughout North and South America. Over time they developed many different ways of life. They built different kinds of village and clothing and spoke many different languages. Today we know them by many different names such as Cree Zura Iroquois and Aztec Together they are known as Native Americans or Americans Indians. They were the first Americans. Indian peoples trading in the Southwest about the year 1500.
