World Geography reference Points
One of the most important concepts in geography is the idea of a reference point. If you want to tell a friend how to get to a particular movie theater you'll give her directions starting from a place you both know such as city hall or your school. She will be  able to understand the direction because she will have the same reference point. To describe location on Earth's surface geographers use agreed upon reference points such as the equator and  the prime meridian. The equator is an imaginary line that encircles Earth halfway between the two poles. It divides Earth into two halves which is called hemisphere. In addition, everything north of the equator is in the Northern Hemisphere and everything  south of the equator is in the Southern Hemisphere  and everything south of the equator is in the Southern Hemisphere. The prime meridian is an imaginary line that runs from the North Pole to the  South Pole passing through Greenwich England. On   the opposite side of Earth the prime meridian becomes the 180 degree meridian. The prime meridian and the 180 degree meridian form a circle that divides the world into the Eastern and Western Hemisphere.
