Birds--the most beautiful the most dynamic the most observable of all wild things---have been the focus of my life since I was a boy of eleven. For well over 60 years they have occupied my daily reading. What you may wonder happened when I was eleven that changed me from a rebellious youngster to an obsessed  bird-watcher. 

When I was in the seventh grade in Jamestown in western new york my teacher started a Junior Audubon Club The club piqued my interest in birds but one incident hooked me  on birds for life. I can even remember the date April 8, 1920 about 9:00 in the morning
