Building New Spain part 1

The Spanish government rewarded many conquistadores by giving them large areas 

of land that had been taken from

the Native Americans. Most of the land was in Mexico which the Spaniard called New Spain. It became Spain's  first colony in the Americas. A colony is  a settlement ruled by another country. People who live in a colony are called settlers or colonist.
