If Mrs. Lynde had known

where Matthew Cubbert 
was going that bright June 

day she would have been 

even more surprised. For
Matthew and his sister Marila

had decided to adopt a little 

orphan boy to help them with

the work on their farm. Matthew 

was on his way to the railroad station 

to pick up the child. When Matthew 

reached the station  there wasn't a train in sight. 

Nor was there any little girl sitting on the end

of the plantform.
