Marilla went upstairs and demanded  that Anne apologize to Mrs. Lynde. I  can never do that said Anne. You may punish me any way you like. You can shut me up in a dark damp dungeon and I won't complain. But I cannot ask Mrs. Lynde to forgive me. We're not in the habit of shutting people  up in dungeons in Avon-lea Mrs responded. You will apologize to Mrs Lynde and final.
