Galaxies are giant groups of millions or even trillions of stars. In addition, our own local galaxy is the Milky Way. There may be twenty trillion galaxies in the Universe. When galaxies get too near they pull each other into weird shapes often with a long tail or bright ring. Large galaxies swallow up small ones that get too close.
